Significant Alterations to Guinea Visa Process: Increased Fees and Extended Processing Time for EU Nationals

Sweeping changes have swept through Guinea’s visa process, particularly impacting European Union nationals. Since August 1, 2026, new measures have introduced a surge in visa fees and an extended processing timeline. These alterations implicitly affect global investors and travelers looking to enter this West African nation.

## Guinea’s Revised Visa Fee Structure

The first wave of changes involves a major revision of Guinea’s visa fees. An official statement from the Guinean Embassy in Brussels, issued on August 11, 2026, revealed a new fee schedule. This revision resulted from Circular Letter No. 04403/MAEIAGE/SG/CAB/DGGE/DGPE/2026, issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Guineans Living Abroad on July 9, 2026.

The most notable shift is the price of the entry visa, which has rocketed from $80 to $100, marking a 25% increase. This is now the standard cost, exclusive of bank fees, for foreign nationals applying for an electronic visa (e-Visa) through the official portal of Guinea’s Central Directorate of Border Police (DCPAF).

## Extended Visa Processing Time for EU Nationals

Alongside the hike in visa fees, EU nationals are facing a specific and drastic modification to their visa processing timeline. A separate statement from the Guinean Embassy in Brussels announced the implementation of restrictive reciprocity measures regarding visa issuance for European Union nationals.

Effective from August 1, 2026, these measures, stemming from Circular Letter No. 04813/MAEIAGE/SG/CAB/DGPE/DGGE/2026, set a 45-day processing time for all visa applications, covering all passport categories. Other changes include mandatory visa fees for all applicants, including diplomatic and service passport holders.

## Early Impact of Guinea’s Visa Changes

Just a few weeks into the new regulations, early indications suggest that these measures may significantly extend the visa processing timeline. As of August 14, 2026, applications processed since July 29 are still under review by Guinean authorities. This already indicates a longer processing period than before, with VisaNews experts suggesting that EU travelers should submit their Guinea visa applications well in advance.

## Guinea’s Reciprocal Measures to EU Visa Restrictions

The genesis of these changes can be traced back to the European Union’s own visa restrictions. The Council of the European Union decided on July 10, 2026, to temporarily tighten Schengen visa rules for Guinean nationals, citing insufficient cooperation by Guinea on readmission. In response, Guinea introduced several similar restrictions for European Union nationals, including the 45-day processing period and mandatory visa fees for all passport categories.

## What This Means for Investors

For investors, the new 45-day processing period and increased visa fee could significantly impact travel planning and budgeting. Yusuf Boz, a senior consultant at Notte Global, suggests that investors should anticipate these changes and adjust their plans accordingly. “While the full implications of these changes are still unfolding, it’s clear that investors need to factor in the additional costs and time when planning travels to Guinea,” Boz commented.
